Think about the last time someone persuaded you to do something, buy something, or believe something.  What did that person do that was convincing?

-OR-

Think of the last time you persuaded someone.  How did you convince your “audience”?

How are you guys defining rhetoric and ideology?

RHETORIC:

  • To speak persuasively in order to convince someone of something
  • It is the ability to persuade others through various forms of art whether it's written, painted, or through music.
  • the art of language
  • saying the exact same things by wording or phrasing it differently with a variety of select words. for Ex. "The bird flew into the window and died" "The bird, without knowing. Flew directly into a glass building and instantly met the untimely death he hadn't seen coming".
  • A technique using figures of speech in persuasive writing or speaking.
  • It's something that's trying to persuade or uplift someone
  • Discourse, usually through language, when used to persuade, animate, or otherwise sway an audience.
  • Something that is persuasive, meant to enlighten and animate people.
  • Something made to persuade or promote a thing or ideology
  • Language, images or other media used to motivate, persuade, or encourage someone of something.
  • The way that you chose words to drive in your point
  • Smart speaking with techniques

IDEOLOGY:

  • The ideas and morals you carry that define your decisions
  • The study of perspective
  • values, beliefs and way of looking
  • Your personal view and Moral Beliefs.
  • An opinion or idea that a person might live by sometimes believing their ideas as fact.
  • an ideology is a belief or set of rules that you hold to be true.
  • Ideology is the way people see the world.
  • Ideals and ideas normally surrounding politics and economic policies.
  • opinion but also religion
  • when you take ideas and make them into your morals
  • the ideas and beliefs that you have
  • Your opinions that make up your beliefs.
  • Beliefs set to a certain person or group of people
  • An idea that has become belief
  • A belief or idea that is turned into a religion, government, or societal status.
  • Ideas that define morals and values
  • a shared belief or idea within a group of people
  • A person's beliefs and ideas, the way they see and think about the world
  • Ideology is your beliefs and morals
  • a set of beliefs or philosophies
  • I guess someone’s version of their truth
  • an idea or theory that explains and gives reason to greater things that aren't proven
  • Strongly believing in an idea
  • A group of beliefs shared by multiple people
  • I've always thought of Ideology as a wider held moral. I think as moral is to the individual; ideology is to the society.
