FRIDAY: Reflection writing and "talk about our feelings" time:)

SEMINAR REFLECTION

1. Reflection/Self-Assess: Reflect on the outcome of the seminar.  Consider your own performance and the seminar overall.  How did you do personally and how did the group do collectively?   Based on the rubric, what grade do you deserve on the seminar? 

2. React to your peers’ ideas (be specific) and the knowledge you all constructed together.  Was there anything that enlightened you?  Something you particularly disagree with?  How did your thinking about the topics change as a result of this seminar? 

3.  How would you characterize your personal “FOOD ETHIC”? What factors influence this ethic (ie. financial, health, environmental, cultural, moral, etc.)?  How does your personal relationship with food impact your happiness and well being?

Alternate assignment if you missed the seminar or didn't find a way to participate yesterday:

• Answer ALL FOUR ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS in writing with evidence from the text.

You have two readings and a TED talk to watch today and tomorrow. Please annotate all three as seminar texts and complete the seminar prep assignment as outlined in the seminar overview doc.

• ESSAY: “The Pleasures of Eating” by Wendell Berry (seminar questions to THINK about as you read)
• ARTICLE: “Food Miles and Packaging: A Contrarian View” by Aaron Brody
• TED TALK: Ron Finley “A Guerilla Gardener in South Central LA”

If you are new to Animas and/or Socratic Seminar, please stick around for a brief overview/pep talk on what Thursday's seminar will look like.

EVERYONE should review the RUBRIC as a refresher. It's been so long since we did seminar in person! Yay!

Review the essay rubric with an eye for self-evaluation. Please submit with your final essay a completed rubric where you have evaluated yourself. Please add qualitative commentary on why you are giving yourself the grade you are and answer the following questions at the bottom of the document:

1. What is strong about the essay?

2. If you had more time, what would you revise further?

3. What is something important that you learned writing this? About self or about writing.
